Letters to the Editor

This is a most interesting newsletter. From a rapid scan of the piece on cricket, I noticed that Evan Morris is said to have won the Rhodes scholarship in 1945. That cannot be because l went to KC in 1947 and he was the head boy and, that I recall, did not sit for the HSC until that fall.

Indeed the Johnson history lists him as still the head boy in 1948. My memory is that he got the Rhodes in 1949the beginning of the ‘golden run’.

But this is a small point about a most creditable enterprise!

Another Derrick Wright?

I noticed that my namesake was listed in that first form picture published in the January, 2006 KCOBA newsletter. That picture was from the 1965 40th Anniversary magazine, of course. Interestingly enough, I knew that there was another Derrick Wright who had started KC two years after I had started. I even met him once while I was at KC. He now lives in Chicago, I think.

I myself entered KC in January 1963. That was the last time that the school year started in January. As such, I spent just 9 months in first form before moving on to 2nd form. When the pictures for the 40th Anniversary Magazine were taken I was actually in 4th form, with the likes of Errol Case (who also lives here in Atlanta), Errol "Honey" Maye, Paul Matalon and feared football defender "Webba," among others.

Incidentally, I do have a copy of that "1965" magazine. It's important to note, too, that although the pictures were taken for the "1965" magazine, most of us (at least the fourth-formers) actually posed for them in 1966, as I recall.

Great newsletter! Excellent job!

Derrick R. Wright

1963 - 1968

Editor's note: This Derrick's form 4EII class picture is featured in this month's "Guess Who" section.
