“You old Africa, I found you-Kunta Kinte!!!” - Alex Haley, “Roots”
Wayne “Kunta “ Fairclough
The new Manning Cup coach at KC is 48 year old Boy, Wayne “Kunta “ Fairclough, who took over the reins just days ago on July 3rd, 2006.
Kunta created a sensation last season when he took over at the helm and carried Waterhouse, 15 points adrift of Harbour View, to the 2005/2006 Premier League title. The wizard resigned from ‘moh fire’ much to everyone’s consternation at the end of the season. His school life runs through Allman Town Infant & Primary, Holy Trinity Secondary, Kingston College (2 years), St. Andrew Tech (STATHS) and the College of Arts Science and Technology (CAST).
Wayne Fairclough has been involved with football for nearly 30 years. He was assistant coach at Kingston Technical to Keith Bryce in 1978 and 1979 and carried the school to the Walker Cup title in one of those years. He played football for Santos, STATHS and CAST. He coached Union Gardens, winning the Minor League in 1986. He coached Arnett Gardens in 1988 and qualified them for the National League play off and advanced. He won the Jackie Bell KO title in 1989. After that, he took Maverley-Hughenden to the National League in 1992. In that year, he lost to Boys Town in the Major League finals. He also coached Galaxy and afterwards STATHS where he spent the next eight years.
Kunta’s wife, Janice presently teaches at KC. They are the proud parents of four children. Music is his hobby. He is presently employed as a technical officer in the construction engineering department of the Ministry of Housing, Transportation, Water and Works.
