It’s been a wonderful summer so far. For one thing, I have been able to spend a lot of time with my grandson who has just started walking and provides many moments of pure joy. And then there was the world cup. Since the Reggae Boys were not in Germany, the Jamaican community in Atlanta threw their support behind the Soca Warriors from Trinidad. And we were not disappointed as they put in a terrific performance despite not making it out of group play.
We are pleased to bring you some exclusive photos of the World Cup taken by KC old boy Howard Clayton and his wife Marguerite who were on location in Germany for the event. Be sure to read the fascinating account of their experiences elsewhere in this issue.
Last month’s article by Basil Waite entitled, “I am a KC Girl,” about Sergeant Anderson, coordinator of the safe schools program, prompted several other ladies to comment that they also considered themselves “KC Girls.” Who Knew?
We have two new additions to the staff of the newsletter: Dr. Cedric Lazarus in Toronto and Derrick R. Wright in Atlanta. Both of these gentlemen join us as contributing editors. Cedric is a member of the “Headboy’s Club” and writes an ongoing series on the Asian influenza virus aka the “Bird Flu.” Derrick is the subject of July’s profile of the month, so you can read all about him in that article.
Congratulations to all those elected as officers and directors to the various KCOBA chapters that held elections in June. May the “Fortis” spirit be with you all.
