We are extremely excited about the news that construction has finally been restarted on the Melbourne Park social services building. This partially finished building, which the chairman of the school board has referred to on more than one occasion as an 'eyesore' has been sitting in a dilapidated condition for more than four years, while students were at times forced to eat lunch in an old bus hauled to the site for storage and not human habitation.
The project was the brainchild of prominent Old Boy and Attorney Churchill Neita. Somewhere along the line the project ran out of money and was allowed to sit like an orphaned abandoned child. The Miami and Atlanta Chapter of the KCOBA saw this and felt action needed to be taken to fulfill this bold dream. So they embarked on their fund raising crusade to raise the more than US$48K needed to make this dream a reality. To date Miami have contributed over $15K and Atlanta over $3K to get us close to the goal. With over $5K already saved and some promised contributions we are close to fully funding this dream and there is no stopping us in sight.
The building once completed, will do triple duty as classrooms, counseling centre and cafeteria, it will be the most modern facility anywhere on the Kingston College campus and most impressively it
would have been
conceived, funded and built without one cent of government money. This is an accomplishment that the entire Kingston College fraternity ought to be very proud of, and let it serve as an inspiration that when we put our heads together and define our objectives pragmatically, there is nothing we can't achieve.
