Toronto’s New Consul General Checks in with the Jamaican Community

Mrs. Anne-Marie Bonner assumed duties as Jamaica's Consul General to Toronto on April 6, 2006. The new Consul General is coming directly from the Cabinet Office in Jamaica where she was Principal Director of the Policy Analysis and Review Unit, responsible for managing the business of Cabinet and providing strategic advice to the Cabinet and its Committees. She also coordinated policy capacity building programmes and managed externally funded social policy projects.

Prior to this, Mrs. Bonner was Director and Senior Director of the Policy Support Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister from 1992 to 1998, where she was responsible for coordinating and advising on social policy, including the National Poverty Eradication Programme. She also managed and coordinated special projects such as as the San Jose Accord and Airport Privatization Projects.

From 1989 to 1992, Mrs Bonner was an Investment Analyst and Special Project Coordinator with the National Investment Bank of Jamaica (NIBJ), where she developed privatization policy and was responsible for monitoring the Government's investment portfolio.

Additionally, Mrs. Bonner was a part-time Lecturer in Gender Analysis in Policy and Programmes at the University of the West Indies and served on the Board of Jamaica Social Investment Fund and the Micro-Enterprise Investment Development Agency.

A graduate of the Immaculate Conception High School for Girls and also the University of the West Indies (UWI) where she gained a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and Management and a Master of Science degree in Economics, the Consul General also holds a Certificate in Gender Analysis, Managing Political and Economic Reform and Performance Management.

Mrs. Bonner has an avid interest in Jamaica's culture and art.
