Audley M. Hewett

“My greatest achievement in life is my sojourn at KC during the 1950’s where I cultivated my philosophy in life and made lasting and lifetime friendships”

Audley M. Hewett was born on November 26, 1937 in Spanish Town, St.Catherine to Rupert and Berbie Hewett. He entered KC in 1949 and graduated in 1956. Audley excelled academically and athletically. He was one of KC’s first tennis stars and was a Triple jump champion at Boys’ Champs. Audley’s heroes at KC included Bishop Percival Gibson, Douglas Forrest, W. Isaac-Henry and Sidney ‘Foggy’ Burrowes. As Audley puts it,” They inspired me with their dedication, instilling the perpetuation of the KC Spirit”. Indeed Audley is foremost amongst Old boys who taught (by example) how to maintain an active interest in the life of KC boys by giving back by virtue of time and/or financially. One can also recall the efforts of his lifelong friends ‘Molo’ Walker and the late ‘Dickie’ Coke.

Audley firmly believes that KC Old Boys’ sons should follow in their father’s footsteps to Melbourne and Clovelly Parks. The eternally positive spin off is that a keen interest in the day to day running of “The Kollege” is maintained and excellence abounds.

As a foundation member of KCOBA Florida, Audley yeoman’s effort to build and re-build KC is still evident as he envisions the construction of a state of the art Gymnasium.

Audley also made his mark in Jamaica’s Life Insurance Industry becoming the first individual to write over one million dollars of life insurance in one month and was also a Life member of the Million Dollar Round Table. As President of the then Jamaica Track and Field Association he was lauded for facilitating scholarships for athletes from all over the island.

Audley is married to Lorna and is the very proud father of Wayne, Kevin and Natasha and granddaddy to numerous beautiful grandchildren.

The purple spirit is in full bloom but has to be nurtured and we should all follow Audley’s lead to have Kingston College evolve into the finest institution of learning in Jamaica.
