YOU’VE BEEN PLAYED

A poem by Leighton Hollar

Leighton Hollar

They make everything
to look, sound nice.
Life is a game, a toy --
they have no shame.
They say they are heroes
when they promote their pills
but pass the blame
when this poison comes home and kills.
They call themselves
Leaders, Bosses, Presidents and Kings.
Time exposes them as Vagabonds --
Scoundrels, Liars and Pigs.
They fool the people
with Favors, Larceny and Dope.
They rob us of our Labor --
our Future and Hope.
They, the Justices, Priests, Politicians
Congress-Persons, Senators; all gullible folks.
Even they are played
by their Cronies, Lobbyists, Media-Biggs and Pope.
You see, the results of their beguiling
but play along with redoubled zeal.
You feel, the weight of consequences rising --
yet, stay to thread the wheel.
