A Few Words from the Editor

Glen Laman

Quietly and without fanfare, a couple months ago, in September 2006, the KCOBA Newsletter reached its two year anniversary. To be honest, we forgot. But look how far we have come: from humble beginnings as a plain text email, we now serve a global audience with our web-based content. One could argue that we long ago surpassed being a newsletter and have become a “magazine.”

The first issue carried only a few items: the Atlanta chapter’s preparations for a Christmas party; news of a joint after work reggae party with another group known as JAPIE; the list of Atlanta board members and a profile of Atlanta chapter president, Everton Barrett. Nowadays, we routinely publish 20 or more articles in each issue, most with photos and occasionally for big events, a slide show.

The future looks bright for the newsletter and as a sign of our confidence in the future; we recently reserved a new domain name on the web for five years. Our enterprising assistant editor, Basil Waite, has recruited and is grooming a group of KC students as contributors to the newsletter—some of their work can be seen in this month’s edition—to ensure we are always in touch with the “buzz” at the college.

We hope you are enjoying what you have seen so far and ask that you stay tuned as we grow and improve in serving you.

Happy reading!
