KCOBA NY Salute Cricket Greats at 25th Anniversary Banquet

The New York chapter of the Kingston College Old Boys’ Association celebrated its 25th anniversary on May 12th, 2007 at their annual banquet at Antun’s in Queens Village, New York.
The evening’s program got underway when Master of Ceremonies, Michael Holding, introduced the president of the New York Chapter, Robert Kelly who gave the President’s welcome.
Among the many notables in attendance were Rev. Don Taylor, Vicar Bishop for New York City, Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, former New York City councilwoman, Una Clarke, New York State Assemblyman Nick Perry and the first Haitian elected to the New York City Council, Mathieu Eugene.
Toronto chapter President, Lance Seymour and Secretary Dale Keizs headed up the Toronto contingent while Audley Hewitt, President of the Florida Chapter led the Florida delegation. The Atlanta’s Vice-President, Glen Laman, who was accompanied by his wife Toni, was also in attendance.
The highlight of the evening was the awards presentation. The Distinguished Alumnus award was presented to James “Jimmy” Richards who represented KC in cricket, football and lawn tennis. He was captain of the Sunlight Cup team in 1956 and vice captain of the Manning Cup team in 1957. After studying Law in London, Jimmy returned to Jamaica and coached the cricket team to victories in Sunlight, Spalding and Tappin cups.
Roy McLean and Gladstone Neil (posthumously) were presidential awardees.
Certificates of recognition were awarded to Jimmy Cameron, J.K. Holt Jr., the late Collie Smith, Easton McMorris, Michael Holding, Marlon Tucker, Mark Neita, Robert Haynes, Robert Samuels, Mario Ventura, Deron Dixon, Errol Nolan and Marlon Samuels.
After the dinner and speeches were concluded, Jeff Barnes, Sr gave the vote of thanks.
