Funeral services for Micky Murdock were held on Saturday, October 13th, 2007 at St. Augustine’s Chapel on KC’s North Street campus.
Micky entered KC in January 1947 and represented the school in cricket and football and in 1953 he was the captain of the star-studded team, which beat one of the best aggregations that St. George's had.
While the world was enjoying the match-up between Fairy Boots and the goal machine - Byron Lee, we drew with XLCR, playing in its first year in the competition. To the consternation of all, XLCR created the greatest upset in Manning Cup history by winning.
After leaving school, Micky joined Melbourne, where it was difficult to make a team of the best of the rest. The cream was supposed to play for Kingston (from Wolmers, JC and Munro). However, he concentrated on cricket and eventually moved to St. Catherine and Bernard Lodge, where he was soon captain. He scored a memorable 136 against Jamaica's finest in a memorable innings, which helped to create the superman image of the St. Catherine Club.
A founding member of the KC Lodge, he was also the founding chairman of the KC Sports Council.
He was a sales supervisor of Berger Paints and became a legend for the many social activities and charities, which benefited from his sponsorship. He is survived by three sons, Gregory, Stephen and Christopher.
Micky’s memories of his days at KC are immortalized in an article in the June 2006 edition of the KCOBA Newsletter.
