Eighteen-year-old upper six-former, Peter John Plummer is the 2007 recipient of the University of the West Indies Open Scholarship.
The award is based on the UWI examination in comprehension and reasoning which he sat in March of this year. Plummer hopes to pursue a degree in medicine as soon as the faculty of Medicine confirms his acceptance. He joins headboy of 1997, Stefan Hemmings who was awarded the scholarship in that same year and subsequently pursued medicine.
Plummer is the son of KCOB Donald Plummer; and just as his older brother, developed a deep love of the “Kollege” fostered by his father who took them to Champs on a regular basis. His father inculcated him with KC values from a very tender age and used to put him to sleep at night with KC anecdotes. It was no wonder KC was his first choice when he completed the GSAT form in 1999. He was firm in his selection of KC despite the protestations of his peers and teachers at Covenant Christian Academy who tried to influence the head of the class to chose ‘uptown schools’ such as Campion and Ardenne.
It was fulfillment of a lifelong dream when Peter John Plummer was awarded a place to KC based on the 2000 GSAT results. He passed with flying colours with very high grades such as: mathematics -98; language arts 99; science 90,social studies 90 and Composition 9.
It was with pride that he entered the hallowed halls of KC on the Monday morn of September 2000, mindful of his father and brother who went before him. Training for KC School’s Challenge Quiz team was his main extracurricular activity. He was on the 2006 team that was edged out by Calabar in the final. He decided to sit out the 2007 team to concentrate on his CAPE studies.
Plummer attained nine CXC ‘O’ level subjects in 2005 in chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, english, English literature, information technology, history and Spanish. In 2006 he was successful in CAPE Unit 1 in four (4) subjects: physics-1; biology 2; chemistry -2 and communication studies-2. In 2007 he attained four (4) subjects in CAPE Unit 2 : physics-2; chemistry -1; biology- 1; Caribbean studies- 3.
His hobbies are football, cricket, reading and listening to music. His professional ambition is to be a medical doctor.
