Judge Patrick Robinson at Atlanta Book Signing

Judge Patrick Robinson, author of Jamaican Athletics: A Model for the World, lives in the Netherlands and is a judge at the UN's International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia. He was recently in Atlanta for a book signing at the Auburn Avenue Research Library on May 3, 2008.

Judge Robinson taught at KC from September 1964 - July 1966.  He recalls his experience at KC as follows:

"I taught English to first, second, fourth and fifth forms.

I was in charge of Sports at Melbourne Park from 1964 when K.C. had just acquired that property and the seven first forms were placed there.

Douglas Forrest was the Headmaster, and was very kind to me, giving me time off to study for my Law exams, which I was doing externally.

I had an All First Form Cricket Team that included Michael Holding as a bowler. Another great sportsman was Howard Bell who played football for Jamaica. He was also in First Form.

My two years at K.C. have been the most productive of my life: I taught; was involved in sports, joined the Jamaican Boxing Coaches and Gym Operators. We brought Archie Moore to Jamaica, and I brought him to speak at K.C; I studied Law and courted the lady who became my wife - all in all two great years."

Jamaican’s Honorary Consul to Atlanta, Vin Martin, organized the book signing ceremony in Atlanta.

Auburn Avenue Research Library Administrator, Francine Henderson, opened the ceremony with welcome remarks.  General remarks were given by Jamaican author, Anthony Winkler who presented Judge Robinson with a signed copy of his book, The Duppy while Sports Journalist and longtime friend, Laurie Foster, introduced Judge Robinson to the audience.

During the ceremony, a special tribute was made to the Late Hon. Herb McKenley, O.M. by Judge Robinson.  Michael McKenley, son of the famous Jamaican track star addressed the group and received the tribute.

The Atlanta chapter of the St. Hugh’s Alumnae Association provided Refreshments for the program, which was held in the Authors & Writers Lounge of the library.
