The hot discussion topic in the KC community these days is the situation regarding a permanent principal for the school. News that the Board did not confirm KCOB Rupert Hemmings after two years in a provisional status has led to a lot of speculation and rumor.
If previously there was concern about the apparent lack of progress in many areas at the school, that concern has now turned into anxiety and worry.
Is the school about to enter another long period of stagnation? Will the board act post-haste in hiring a permanent principal? These are some of the fears being expressed.
Back in May of this year I wrote in A Few Words from the Editor of the need for all the various stakeholders of the college to pull together in the same direction, as this would unleash the power of the engine that is KC.
The analogy I referenced then was that of a car with all four wheels pointed in four different directions. I now have to revise that analogy, as it is now evident that the wheels are not even on the car yet.
I often see the following quote from Henry Ford on walls and pictures:
“Coming together is a beginning.
Keeping together is progress.
Working together is success."
For KC to succeed, we first need to work on coming together.
