ortis Greetings to everyone!

May the words of our mouths and the meditations of our hearts be acceptable in thy sight, oh Jah. Teach us to number our days, so we may get a heart of wisdom. Walks was a wise man, and he knew the number of his days. Rupie Hoilette and I collaborated on this tribute and concluded that Walker had grown to a higher spiritual level. We would like to share a few short glimpses of our experiences with Walks.

After Pato’s Memorial Service on the 27 August 2009, Walks said, “Harris, I appoint you to speak at every KC man funeral.” I won’t repeat my response here.  Walks just laugh a typical healthy Molo laugh, and said, “But I appoint you,  I appoint you.” I could tell you nuff, nuff  more,  but suffice it to say, there was a natural mystic blowing through the air, we just were not listening.
Anton..., Molotov,........Lenin,  Three Jamaican brothers with distinctively Russian names,  to our knowledge those names were not replicated in Jamaica. That’s how we knew that Molo was unique and cannot be replicated. Molo’s Fortis experience helped him to hone and magnify his people’s skills, as he became more of a people lover and who was at his creative best when he was helping others. He was an empathiser with the ability to be instantaneously on the same page with any one, seemingly at all times, on almost any subject requiring the Queen’s English or Patois.

These skills, with the guidance from the brilliant beloved and respected Fortis veteran, Audley Hewitt,  made Walker into a very successful insurance man.  At the time in 72/73, he was excited and energised and purpose driven to be the number one agent in insurance, ever. That unforgettable unit at Manufacturers Life, 34 Duke St, managed by Audley Hewitt, with Keith Binns, Bruce Lyn, Winston Ulett, Merrick Miller, Winston ChungFah, Carlos Dela Motto, Molo, Greenie the unit’s loving secretary and lucky me, supported and motivated and loved  Molo, the young superstar. Indeed they were like his family. The members of that unit still maintain a close friendship. After an illustrious career and numerous prestigious awards and citations, and money, Walker was not satisfied, he was not at peace with himself. He began to question his purpose in life.

We, that is, Walks, Rupie and I, often pondered why people did not recognise that they came into this world with nothing, and they would leave, only with what people put on them. Many times we reasoned about how man’s assignment on earth was simply to spread love, respect and kindness to everyone, to the best of our abilities. Walks began to consciously heed and live these instructions. This seemingly radical spiritual growth and its manifestations left many dumbfounded, as they could not understand this paradigm shift in Walks. He was at the top of his profession, yet his focus on the business of insurance was declining.  They could not understand that Walks was looking at the greater scheme of life. He was looking down the road and at his soul.

Walks had reached a state of mind where he recognised that money could not buy happiness, it only provided a more pleasant form of misery. Walks was not a regular churchman, but he became a highly spiritual man. Walks was also a historian, specialising in sports and music. Rupie would say he was our mobile reference library.  He respected and loved all types of music; I know he loved Bob Marley’s ‘Thank you Lord’. He would give thanks and praises for every little thing, and he would always say, ‘don’t worry about a thing, ‘cause every little thing gonna be alright’.

Walks has never intentionally hurt anyone, so under severe pressure, trials and tribulations, and these were many, he remained positive, believing always that good must overcome evil and that Jah’s will would be done, and so he would simply carry his cross with a chant of, ‘coming in from the cold’.

In October 2007 Walker hosted a party for friends and he has many wonderful friends, the title on the invitation read – ‘In honour of 6Hs, R, &, BB’.  I called this Molo’s Last Supper, where he showered his blessings upon his friends and his disciples, incidentally, showers of rain dominated the entire night. Walker blessed the 6 Hs, Audley Hewitt, Lindy Headley, Dalkieth Hanna, Ray Harvey, Rupie Hoilette and lucky me (Jumpy Harris), the R was Dr. Patrick Robinson & BB, Bertis Bell and Balsy Bear. He gave each a personalised gift, the box was wrapped in purple, the gift was wrapped in purple, and the gift was purple. That was love, and God is love, Molo therefore knew God.

We, all the honourees agreed, have never had such an experience, where a friend, publicly displayed such heartical, spiritual, love. It was his fulfilment of the commandment, ‘Do unto others as you would have them do unto you’. To have planned and executed such an event, we think it could only have been initiated by someone close to the Almighty. Someone who knew and was living love. Walker had sacrificed his heart by cutting it in nine pieces to show the world who he would sacrifice himself for. Remember, love for family is like, mandatory, while love for a friend is a choice. At that moment in time, Walker immediately had nine hearts, one from each honouree. I told him that he was on a higher level. I was only running up my mouth, then, now I know.

I have read that people, at a certain level of spiritual growth, can determine, how, when and where they die naturally.  Remember, the good book says, ‘Teach me to number my days’; Walks appears to have known his number.  He spoke with his brother Lenin reminding him of the fact that they had lived longer than their parents. At Ray’s annual session, Walks for the first time, publicly gave thanks that none in that circle of friends had passed on since the last session. Unfortunately, three have passed on since. He even created his own little paradise with Mr Brown, in the form of his beautiful landscaped gardens filled with lovely flowers - he was truly enjoying nature. He was at peace in these gardens where he meditated and was one with creation, especially with the sunset. He called Darren to show him how beautiful the sunset looked.

Was he seeing Dickie Coke his bosom friend? Have you noticed how the transitions of these two brethren were similar? Both sudden and unexpected. Were Ken Edwards, or Earl Belcher or Gladdy Neill, or his parents, or our Almighty Father in the sunset? We’ll never know. Again, he knew, as  earlier the  same day he made the  transition into the beautiful sunset, he told his beloved caregivers Paulette and Evette, “Everything is gonna be alright, I will soon sort out my life”.  Natural mystic.

Walks, we are exceptionally proud and well blessed to have trod with you in this dispensation, and when our journey has ended and the time comes for our transition, we hope to continue with you, right where we left off, through the powers of the almighty. We celebrate this life knowing that you not only loved us your friends, you also loved and enjoyed your son Darren, and his chosen, your daughter Marijan, and the apples of your eyes, your grand children, your brothers, their family, and the rest of your family.
Walks, life will never be the same, one day we will fully comprehend this natural mystic. Walks time is moving so fast and most of us are looking and even admiring the sunset, so you know, at least one of us in this congregation will soon come check you..., and you can check in anytime, Jah willing. And Walks, those we love never go away, they never die, they live with us each and every day, unseen, unheard, but always near,  always remembered, always cherished.

Always dear..., always loved,... always in our hearts...........Fortis Forever, Forever Fortis

Walks, continue to walk good, it was a great journey, your brethren Mikey Fray reminds us, (MF)   “Walker always say, his heroes are his friends”. Well we (Rupie, Mike and I) say, you are a sample, and the mould bruk, .......and your funeral never flop either.
May Jah grant you eternal peace and may his light perpetually shine on your soul.
