French teacher and acting vice principal, Madame Marguerita Maria Hall (nee Douglas) became the head of the Melbourne campus in 2007. Effectively the “sarge in charge” and registered yet another breakthrough of the glass ceiling at Kingston College.
She grew up in Spanish Town where she attended the elite institutions of St Jago Prep and St Jago High. The prim and proper lass went on to the Mona Campus of the University of the West Indies as a part time student in 1987. She entered the faculty of General Studies (now called Humanities) and in 1992 graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree majoring in French Language and Literature with minor in Economics and Sociology.
Fresh out of University, Madame Hall taught French at St Andrew High and Manchester High, and despite the bidding of her husband Hector Hall, resisted teaching at his alma mater, Kingston College. For her it was too much of a challenge teaching the rough lads at her husband’s former school notwithstanding his attempt too woo her with a repertoire of Handel acquired as an original tenor and now a alto with the Kingston College Chapel choir.
Helen Douglas spotted her at Manchester High when she attended as external examiner and tried to interest her to apply for a vacancy for a French teacher at Kingston College. She finally relented when her three year old daughter Jodi Ann was accepted at St. Theresa prep and it was therefore more convenient to relocate to ‘Town’.
Marguerita Maria Hall entered the hallowed portals of Kingston College in 1993. The rest is history. Today she is the acting vice-principal with substantial responsibility for the Melbourne Campus. Her vision is to make the boys more rounded and imparted with the social graces bearing in mind the mission of the school is to create young Christian gentlemen. She looks forward to improving the level of communication and to fostering closer relations and cooperation amongst the stake holders: teachers, parents and administration.
In preparation for a leadership role at the school, Madame Hall attained a Diploma in Teaching from Shortwood Teachers College in 1997 and a Certificate in Management and School Administration from MICO in 2000.
Married to a KC Old Boy and member of Kingston College Chapel Choir, Hector Hall , they are both proud parents of 18 year old UWI student Jodi Ann and 8 year old St Theresa prep student Ricardo.
She lists reading and watching comedies amongst her hobbies and is a Baptist by religion.
