The Atlanta chapter chose to do a play instead of a banquet this year amidst concerns arising from the global economic crisis. And so Jamaica 2 Rahtid Pupalick, the award winning satirical revue was brought up from Jamaica for two shows on May 10th, Mother's Day at the Shiloh High School Performing Arts Center in Snellville.

The good news is we made some money. Our concession stand did a brisk business between shows and during the intermissions. Supreme Carib Radio - Love 860 AM provided a five night accomodation package at Travellers Beach Resort in Negril which was raffled along with a gift basket from Ocho Rios and a beautiful floral arrnagement from Merthella Wright.

Our partner in this effort was Jamaica Awareness Inc. which has been operating out of South Florida for over 25 years. We are pleased to have collaborated with Sidney Roberts and their Atlanta representative, the very hardworking Louis Parkins.

Atlantan are sill talking about the shows. They were appreciative of the high quality of the performances. It is clear that shows that do not feature Oliver can have a place in the Atlanta mix. For many years, the prevailing wisdom was that Mother's day was ripe for an event. We have now proven that people will come out on Mother's day although it does present some challenges for most of us.

Happy Reading,

Glen Laman
