Penn Relays Contingent Feted in Philadelphia

Members of the Penn Relays contingent were graciously hosted by Merrick Foster (’88) and his family on Sunday April 26th. The group of about 30 athletes, coaches and team officials were transported from their hotel to the northeast Philadelphia home of Mr. Foster. The unseasonably warm April afternoon provided the perfect atmosphere for a good old fashioned backyard cookout and the group was treated to the usual fair of barbecued food.

Robert Kelly, president of the New York Chapter of the Old Boys’ Association and chef for the day formally greeted the contingent. He heartily congratulated the team on winning the boys’ athletic championship for the 31st time; and implored them not to make it a one-off win, but to have this be the first of another streak of wins. The challenge was readily accepted by members of the successful team.

After close to five hours of eating, playing board games and generally having a good time, the evening concluded with Mr. Foster encouraging senior members of the track and field team to be positive role models and supporters of the youngster behind them. This act of giving back he stressed is one way of contributing to the further development of Kingston College and the young men who are privileged to attend. Mr. Channer (sports master) and Andre Peart (co-captain) gave votes of thanks on behalf of the management team and the athletes.

The cookout which was sponsored by members of the New York Chapter was greatly appreciated by the management team and athletes. By all indications the barbecue was an overwhelming success and it is hoped that this will now become an annual event.
