After reviewing the 2009 examination results, I think the boys have done very well under trying circumstances and this is in keeping with the true spirit of Fortis. We must commend the teachers for a job well done. They have demonstrated exceptionally high level of dedication, commitment and love for the school, not seen in any other high school in Jamaica.
As a matter of fact, at a meeting with the Acting Principal, he made the point that the teachers know the background, social condition and ability of each boy that attends KC, which highlights the level of interaction. Also, we have to factor in the role of the Old Boys in this success and commend the continuous support from all the Chapters in the different programmes at the school.
Coming out of this success, there is a great concern as a number of boys who have done well and qualify for Sixth Form cannot be accommodated at the school due to limited space and resources.
This brings me to the issue of the Development Plan. Within it is the expansion of the Douglas Forrest Building to accommodate the Sixth Form Block. Gentlemen, as Old Boys we have to put out greater effort to work along with all the stakeholders to ensure that the Development Plan is implemented and realized.
To this end, coming out of the last Old Boys' Executive meeting held on Wednesday September 9, 2009, we have decided to have a retreat and invite all stakeholders including representatives from the Ministry, Board, Principal, PTA, Trust Fund and others to see how we can move forward. This retreat is slated for Saturday, September 19, 2009. I am asking for input/suggestions/ideas from all the overseas Chapters. Colleagues, for the Development Plan to materialise, we need the commitment and support from each and every Old Boy.
