rrol Molotov “Molo” Walker, the former top insurance sales representatives and Kingston College stalwart, died of a heart attack late Thursday, October 8th, 2009.
Walker, who had done bypass surgery years before, died at his St Andrew home. He was 69.
Known by his friends as Molo, Walker had been suffering from heart-related illnesses for many years, even after doing heart surgery in 1994.
“There was nobody with a greater passion for KC than Molo Walker,” said long-time friend and schoolmate, attorney-at-law K Churchill Neita.
“He helped KC in many areas, specially with the track and field team. He had an unwavering dedication to KC, he had an encyclopedic knowledge of KC and he was purple to the core,” said Neita referring to the school’s main colour.
Walker, an economist by training, was a top life underwriter for Island Life Insurance Company and was also a member of the Million Dollar Round Table for over 20 years.
Former KC and Jamaica hurdler Rupert Hoilette said that Walker had a memory that was second to none.
“We moved as a group and in that group he was regarded him as the memory box,” the dreadlocked Hoilette said.
“Although he loved track and field and supported the programme at the school, he also gave support in other areas of the school.
“His father was Mayor of Kingston around 1950-51 so he got a taste of politics and after completing his studies, he spent most of his life in the insurance business, working with Manufacturers Life, which later changed to Island Life.
“He had friends in high and low places, rich and poor, yet remained humble,” Hoilette said.
Hoilette said that Walker was very close to former headmaster, the late Douglas Forrest, whom he described as “Doug’s right hand man.
“He even used to drive Doug’s car,” Hoilette said.
Molo served as president of the KC Old Boys Association (Jamaica Chapter) and also held positions on the executive.
Funeral services will be held on SATURDAY, OCTOBER 24TH, 2009 AT THE UWI CHAPEL, MONA @ 3:00PM.
