Robert Kelly re-elected president of KCOBA NY

Robert Kelly

K INGSTON COLLEGE OLD BOYS’ ASSOCIATION (USA), INC. RE-ELECTED ROBERT KELLY AS PRESIDENT during its 27th annual general meeting, which was held on August 17th 2009 in Bronx, New York.  Mr. Kelly, a 1973 graduate, has served his alma mater since 1986 in several capacities.  Since assuming the presidency in 2006, Mr. Kelly has targeted the needs of financially challenged students and concentrated on mobilizing his fellow old boys and other supporters to contribute money, resources and equipment to Kingston College.

During the June 2008-May 2009 fiscal year, the New York chapter raised money to renovate the St. Augustine Chapel on the North Street campus, funded the breakfast and lunch program for needy students, supplied prizes and tuition assistance to alumni attending colleges and universities in Jamaica and the USA, and provided much needed uniforms and training equipment to the various sports’ teams.  The chapter also supported the school’s many academic programs, and most notably, built and furnished a multi-purpose building on the Melbourne campus at Elletson Road.

The stakeholders elected the following alumni as officers:
Robert Rodney and Rainford “Perry” Bloomfield, Vice Presidents
Earl Gordon, Secretary
Norman Scott, Assistant Secretary
Ansell Barrett, Treasurer
Alton Brown, Assistant Treasurer

The following alumni were elected as directors: Alimi Banjoko, Clinton Clarke, Donald C. Davidson, Merrick Foster, Calvin Hibbert, Anthony Parkes, and Wilton “Prentice” Williams.
The new leadership and directorate has identified the Internet as the next frontier.  The plan is to expand the roster of active members by endorsing the aggressive effort of the membership committee which is headed by director Merrick Foster – and to increase the paid membership by 1,000 during the current fiscal year.  A comprehensive members-only package of benefits is being developed and very soon the officers expect to issue a branded credit card under the auspices of a major bank.
Mr. Kelly and his leadership team have expressed optimism that Kingston College will remain visible in the academic and sports realms, continuing the respected and acknowledged traditions of all-round excellence.
The next fundraising project is the 17th Annual Scholarship Fund Dance to be held at the Club Orchid, JFK Airport, October 17, 2009.
