A Poem by Raymond Mair

Chapel Mass

The quiet singing, like
angels humming, resonates
through the pews and the light soothes
the hushed organ tones,
insinuating faith -
peace flows through touched hands, to
hover over the altar;
we chant - this is the bread
of life, this is the blood,
this is the Son; sing now
the alleluia that brings
you hope; this is the alleluia
that gives you life; this is
the alleluia that
will not pass away; what peace.
The cool breeze wafts Christmas
thoughts of love and happiness,
and the birth: we embrace the
hope of the world; the Mass
is ended, go in peace.
We leave under hard stars.
