A New Year’s Message From KCOBA (Toronto) - Lance Seymour
At this tim e of year, most of us adopt a forward-looking perspective and ponder our immediate future. We resolve to change behaviours, accomplish new goals, typically encompassing a wide range of personal objectives.
In keeping with this tradition, I challenge each and every member of the KCOBA family to commit to a greater level of involvement in their respective Associations and by extension the ongoing effort to assist Kingston College . Let us make 2006 the year in which we truly mobilize and harness the collective resources and talent of the KCOBA family to make a difference in the lives of deserving young men attending Kingston College . I have already seen evidence of the type of creative "out of the box" thinking with the idea of selling bottled water under the "Fortis" brand. These are the type of initiatives that should be encouraged and given every opportunity to succeed. Other worthwhile endeavours that members may choose to support are as follows:
Adopt a Form
Development Trust Fund
Sponsorship of prize giving awards
Sponsorship of local Associations' projects
Support local Associations' fund raising events
A key stakeholder in achieving the type of success envisioned for the school is of course the Kingston College Administration. It is important that the priorities as established by those "on the ground" be documented and shared with all interested parties. The New Year is as good a time as any to address this long-standing concern. I am appealing to our brothers in Jamaica to take a leadership role in addressing this matter. I understand that considerable work has already been undertaken in this regard and I am hopeful that by the time of the next Summit , planned for Toronto in August 2006, we will be well underway with the resulting roadmap.
One of my trusted advisers believes that KCOBA is an exclusive club that should engender pride in the membership. I fully support this viewpoint and challenge those of us who have assumed the position of leadership to create such an environment for our respective members. It is not simply enough to appeal to the conscience of individuals. Similar to a sports club, it is much easier to achieve success when the team members derive mutual benefit from their involvement. As a result, KCOBA ( Toronto ) is establishing a scholarship fund to benefit students affiliated with our members. Additionally, the popular Fortis Friday networking sessions will be expanded to appeal to a much broader range of interest including those of an intellectual nature.
Kingston College and the KC Old Boys Association entity have a proud history and with much to be pleased. A lot still needs to be done. Let us use 2006 as the starting point to redouble our efforts and realize our potential to the benefit of Kingston College and all stakeholders, including the KCOBA membership and extended family.
On behalf of KCOBA ( Toronto ), Best Wishes to the Kingston College immediate and extended family for the New Year.
