The Kingston College Development Trust Fund (KCDTF) is operated as a tax-exempt entity under the corporation laws of Jamaica. The principal goal is the establishment of an inviolate fund, the income from which is used to assist the school in various areas. So far the fund has contributed to KC in the areas of the computer labs at both campuses and the funding of the Douglas Forrest Administrative Building. We believe that the funds legacy will positively impact the lives of many generations of students and faculty and urge our supporters to contribute to the fund.. .more >>
Every K.C. Old Boy (hereinafter “Old Boy”) that I have encountered over the past decade or so, has essentially the same lamentation, and that is; “the College needs help bad”. During the passage of this time, tens of fundraising events have been held by the four North American chapters of KCOBA with varying returns amounting to thousands of dollars. It is well documented that close to 90 percent of this surplus revenue has made its way either directly to the College or the Kingston College Development Trust Fund (KCDTF). The New York Chapter has done a remarkable job of documenting its disbursement of funds via its heralded Souvenir more >>

Harry Henry provides a dazzling display of legwork at this Atlanta fundraiser
The first annual KCOBA-Ga Scholarship Fund Dance got off to a memorable start and the future of this event looks sparkling judging from the support the Community has offered so far. What started out as a cold crisp December Saturday night in Atlanta, warmed up in a hurry and by midnight it was steamy hot. Over 140 residents and Old boys turned out nattily attired to enjoy the sounds of DJ Wayne and the “Migraine” sound machine. And they weren’t disappointed. He rocked the floor all the way until 2:30 am Sunday morning. Taking the crowd back to the Ska through Rock Steady, Roots Rockers through the Electric slide straight up to “Steppin in the name of Love”. The floor was never empty and many a dancer echoed the words “the young fella sure knows his . more >>

A recent publication of the Financial Gleaner confirmed the appointment of KC’s headboy of 1978, Stephen Vasciannie, as chairman of the board of Jamaica's fourth largest securities dealer, DB&G.

The 2005 KCOBA Atlanta honoree, forms part of the 5 new directors to the DB& G board which includes Bill Clarke, attorney-at-law Barbara Alexander, JCC executive Anthony Chang, and hotelier Muna Issa. The most exciting story of 2006 for the KC community was our winning of Champs for a sixth consecutive year--nothing energizes the Old Boys like a win on the sports field. I had the honor of meeting coach Lennox Graham at the KCOBA Atlanta banquet where he was honored for his work with the track and field team. It brought back memories of my own days at school. more >>

Despite the fact that I am a Christian, I find it difficult and even strange, both to me and to others to do certain things I see other children doing in my age group - even though I was 18, as of November 05, 2006. I am still not surprised but rather wondering when since has our society changed? When have certain things, which are the norm or of acceptance have become unacceptable and vice versa? When is it that a student living in the “ghetto” who speaks Standard English is associated with practicing more >>
Vin Blaine Leads Harbour View to Premier League Title
Vin Blaire
Kingston College Old Boy Vin Blaine coached the Harbour View FC female football team to the 2006 JFFF Sherwin Williams Women’s Premier League title. Blaine, who played on the winning KC Manning Cup team of 1967, is also coach of the Jamaica Women’s football team.
Bureaucracy in a school’s administration will not facilitate better relationship between students and teachers. It will be an inevitable situation of stored feelings if students find it difficult for their voices to be heard; a problem most students have difficulty with. To this end, I will concur that as Head Boy I have the same difficulty. To have the student’s voice being heard has nothing to do with influencing any administrator’s decision on discipline. It is sad to say, that the only thing students have going for them is their voices and when this is denied, the results will not likely be pretty. more >>
I was in the twin island state of Trinidad and Tobago for seven days in October. You know that you are in Trinidad when every other car and every maxi-taxi bears an oversized bumper sticker of the Soca Warriors. Of course, pictures of the Prince of Port of Spain, Brian Lara, were also quite evident but these are mostly on advertisements rather than on motor vehicles. Nevertheless, I got the feeling that the Soca Warriors had achieved national hero status as a result of qualifying for the World Cup. Someone told me that they achieved this status after their scoreless draw with Sweden. Maybe it can be argued that Brian Lara achieved national hero status in 1994 when be made 375 runs in Antigua. .more >>
The Rev. Dr. Barry Davies inherited the gift of music from his grandfather who was a church organist but his nose was kept to the wheel by his mother who was determined not to have him waste all the money she had to spend on piano and organ lessons. Now in his seventy eight year, Rev. Davies is still putting those early music lessons to good use. .more >>
As luck would have it, I arrived in Kingston for a business trip on November 10th the day before the Annual Reunion Dinner of the KCOBA at the Wyndham Hotel in Kingston, Jamaica. Based on the tirade of email messages which preceded the dinner I went to the event not knowing what to expect but at the same time looking forward to seeing friends whom I had not seen since my last attendance three years ago. As expected, many of the stalwarts were there and I got the opportunity to share some thoughts with Old Boys such as Tony Johnson, Jimmy Richards, Derrick Aarons and Stratton Palmer. Robert Kelly from New York was in attendance as was Audley Hewitt from Miami. I shared a table with Peter Thompson, Patrick Dallas, Scott and George Scarlett whose six or seven brother and three sons went to KC. more >>
Adolescence is a most crucial time in the development of the individual and, from my experience, the memories of adolescence remain vivid for a very long time. When my wife informed me that we were scheduled to attend the National Women of Color Technology Awards Banquet on October 21, 2006 at the Peachtree Plaza Hotel in downtown Atlanta, I was clueless as I had never heard of the organization. It was the 10th conference involving women in information technology, computer science, information science, bioinformatics, engineering and digital arts and systems. more >>

KCOBA (Toronto) donates to Helping Hands Project at Melbourne Campus
KCOBA (Toronto) donated CAD $2,000 to KC to help with the refurbishing efforts at the Melbourne Campus as part of the Helping Hands project being spearheaded by KC Old Boys Wilfred McKenley, Hamlin Pagon , Leaford Grant and Basil Waite. The funds was raised by special appeals to attendees at the popular Fortis Friday networking event and a 50/50 draw at the Annual Reunion and Awards Banquet held November 4, 2006. Dale Keizs, Secretary, KCOBA (Toronto) handed over the cheque during his recent visit to the school.
Loyal supporters of the St. Hugh’s Alumnae Association’s Atlanta Chapter were regaled with a night worth waiting for when they attended the association’s Fidelitas Jazz and More Atlanta, 2006 at the Holiday Inn Select in Norcross recently. I knew I had found the right place when I glimpsed the larger than life cast of Jamaica’s queen of track, Merlene Ottey, through the doorway. I had come to interview, Basil Watson, the world renowned artist and sculptor. And there he was, standing in a corner of his studio, busy at his workbench. He dried his hands, welcomed me and then offered a chair near the center of the large room filled with objects of art that were in various stages of completion. more >>
