Kensington Oval in Bridgetown Barbados is known as the ‘Home of WI Cricket’ so it was appropriate that the final game of the ICC World Cup Cricket Competition was held there. I went to three games in Barbados including the nail-biter between the WI and England which we lost. I did not go to the finals because I found it difficult to pay US$300 to see a game in which the WI was not playing. more >

KC Wins its first 4 X 800 Title at Penn Relays 2007
Kingston College won their first ever 4x800m title at the Penn Relays in 7:42.45 with the team of Adrian Bonner, Danzeto Cephas, Andre Pickersgill and Donahue Williams. Calabar High were second in 7:47.56 and Jamaica College finished third in 7: 48.62. In the 4 x 100 relay it was St. Jago High school who blazed to a new record of 39.96 seconds, the first time any high school team has run under 40 seconds at Penn Relays, shattering the 40.13 set by Camperdown last year.

The CARICOM Caucus of Ambassadors was in Atlanta on April 28, 2007 for a “Diaspora Dialogue” in the form of a Town Hall meeting at the Kelly Chapel United Methodist Church in Decatur, Georgia. A few weeks ago my wife’s aunt Valerie and her cousin Nandi, flew from Atlanta to South Africa at the invitation of President Mbeki. They had been invited for a ceremony held to honor heroes of the liberation Struggle. Valerie’s late husband, Johnstone “Johnny” Mfanafuthi Makatini, was posthumously awarded the Silver Order of Luthuli. Johnny worked as the ANC’s director of the Department of International Affairs during the 1980s. He was also a long standing member of the ANC National Executive Committee. KCOB and principal of ICWI, Dennis Lalor, was presented with the Pan Caribbean Lifetime Achievement Award by Donovan Perkins, President and CEO of Pan Caribbean. The presentation took place on May 2 at the Jamaica Observer Business Leader Awards more >>

George Pusey who was a track athlete in his days at "The College," passed on after a prolonged illness. George is the elder brother of Neville Pusey who also attended KC. His sister, Carmen Jens, is a long-time member of the JCA and is well known in Jamaican circles in Toronto.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 5th, 2007 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Lithia Springs, Georgia. more >>
