KCOld Boy Adrian Strachan was awarded the Order of Jamaica for public service in ceremonies held recently on National Heroes day. Six other Jamaicans received the award. They are Bishop Herro Blair, world-renowned cricket umpire Steve Anthony Bucknor, Scotia Bank president William 'Bill' Clarke, Professor Edwin Samuel Jones, Keble Munn and Dorothy Pine-McClarty The Order is of Jamaica is the fourth of the five ranks in the Jamaican honors system. The Order was established in 1969, and is considered the equivalent of knighthood in the British system. Membership in the Order can be conferred to any Jamaican citizen of outstanding distinction. read more »

KCOB Junior Francis was recently named coach of the National Women’s U17 Football Team. He is currently the first vice-president of Reno FC, chairman of the technical committee, a member of the coaching staff and the head coach for Reno's female team. Francis has been involved in coaching for nearly 26 years. He coached JPS and Water Commission in Business House and Premier League clubs Cavaliers and Santos. His female coaching career started at UWI Pelican in 1991. He was the first to introduce female football at the collegiate level, coaching at Taylor Hall and Preston Hall. He was also the head coach of the UWI Pelican Club team and Merl Grove High in 1997. He was coach of competition winner Queen's High School in 1978. read more »

In the twenty one years since Dr. Kong became its CEO, ABC has become an international organization representing over 600 members; staff of 25; and a host of volunteers who actively advocate for culturally competent health care, increased representation of minorities in the health professions, and availability of appropriate health care and medication for all citizens. read more »

Commentary
The famous American Novelist Thomas Wolfe said that ‘you can’t go home again’. The presumption of his argument being that home is never what it was, once you’ve left for any extended period of time. Someone like me who has been gone for over three decades with a severe case of rear view mirror syndrome is probably a classic case of longing for the home that is no more. For some insuppressible reason I’ve been getting this aching for a return home lately, the astonishing results of the last election probably have stoked the fire of repatriation, and the idea of a true democracy looks achievable. It is slowly dawning on me that America is probably never going to grow to an appreciable level of black entitlement in my lifetime, and the constant need to rage war against recalcitrant dictators is causing me undue anxiety, and a life of tranquility in the autumn of my years appears elusive. read more
